All of the members of Solid Ground have extensive backgrounds in music and ministry. Jeff Johnson is the tenor and manager for Solid Ground. He was raised in a musical household. Jeff was bit by the musical bug as he tagged along with the group his family were members of, The Descendents, who traveled throughout the state of California every weekend. Jeff has been a member of The Descendents, Sonrise, The Lighthouse Boys, and 4 His Love, all regional groups in California. He spent a year and a half traveling full time with The Southmen, based in Hueytown, Alabama. At some point in Jeff’s musical history, he has sung tenor, baritone & lead and he has also played bass & the drums.
Jeff and his wife, Rhonda have two children, Megan and Jayden.
Joining Solid Ground in July of 2009 is lead singer Randy Wold. His music experience began at an early age playing brass instruments. When he finished college, his primary instrument was French Horn. Randy began singing in his sophomore year of high school when asked to participate in the school’s Broadway musical production. Randy continued to sing in church choirs and had the opportunity to be a soloist for many years. He has held music ministries positions with several churches. Prior to joining Solid Ground, Randy was the lead singer for the Friends of God quartet.
Randy and his wife Nancy were married in 2001 and have two adult children, Brian and Leslie and three grandchildren; Merryn, Finnley and Ryker.
Solid Ground's newest vocalist is Bill Burkett. Bill joined Jeff and Randy in early 2017. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he now resides in Merced, California. Bill came west courtesy of the military to serve our country as a crew chief on A-10 aircraft in Tucson, Arizona. Bill accepted the Lord as a 7 year old at the Landmark Baptist Temple in Cincinnati. Landmark had a large and vibrant music ministry which included the nationally renowned Landmark Quartet with pianist Lauren Mathews. That incredible music ministry inspired Bill to pursue music on his own which included the Southern Gospel sound. He realized that beautiful songs and melodies found in three and four part harmonies can move the heart of 'anyone'.
Bill has been serving for many years at the Christian Life Center in Merced, California as a worship leader, soloist, drummer and singer/actor in many large scale productions. Bill has a deep abiding love and appreciation for God and His beloved son who rescued this prodigal after walking away to chase personal gain.
Bill has four children and five grandchildren.
